Inspired in self-isolation: Nathan Wan

With Covid-19 lockdowns worldwide and health authorities urging people to self-isolate and practice social distancing on a massive scale as part of an enormous effort to #FlattenTheCurve of this global pandemic … we are reaching out to industry friends, colleagues, associates, partners, etc., and asking them to share their #StayAtHome and #QuarantineAndChill activities with us during this extraordinary time.

Nathan is the lead creative designer for Robe lighting, a busy and demanding job that entails designing and producing exhibition stands and Robe’s acclaimed live exhibition showcases. He also produces product and other promotional videos plus designs and programmes lighting for the showroom complex at HQ in the Czech Republic. Additionally, Nathan is an independent lighting director and designer.

Robe: Where are you right now?

Nathan: Mawsley, a village 11 miles from Robe UK’s office in Northampton. Currently, I’m in my studio at the bottom of the garden.

Robe: What are you doing to fill the time whilst isolating / on lockdown?

Nathan: Apart from trying not to kill my kids … :) joking!!!! I am busy designing concepts for future exhibitions, shows and video shoots … and keeping fit.

Robe: What’s the most creative thing you’re able to do in isolation?

Nathan: Making sure I don’t run out of coffee beans!

I’m being resourceful in working on content for social media and other channels without access to all the usual facilities!

Robe: Are you looking after anyone else during the Covid-19 crisis?

Nathan: Yes, my parents are self-quarantining so I’m shopping and doing various errands for them during this time!

Robe: Has anyone inspired you since this started?

Nathan: Yes, how quick and smart our industrial logistics specialists have been, and how they have played a major part in keeping the food chain going and the supermarket shelves stocked.

Robe: Favourite book / movie / Netflix series / viral video

Nathan: I’m not really a book type of person, but movie-wise, Snatch (a 2000 British crime comedy film written and directed by Guy Ritchie), and my favourite TV series are Brassic and (British coming-of-age sitcom) The Inbetweeners.

Robe: What’s the first thing you’d like to do when we are through it?

Nathan: Catch up with all my friends and family and have a few beers in a pub garden!

Robe: Own question / answer / message of solidarity or something you’d like to say?

Nathan: Don’t underestimate this situation! We should not take things we love for granted! Stay at home, if you are with your family enjoy this time … and stay healthy!
