Marc is a well-known lighting designer, lighting director and programmer working mostly in the touring and event sectors, where his friendly and affable personality is very much liked! He also works as a trainer on the HOG4 range of lighting consoles.

Robe: Where are you right now?

Marc: Home in Munich, Germany with my family.

Robe: What are you doing to fill the time whilst isolating / on lockdown?

Marc: Home-schooling my 10-year-old daughter and also doing some tutorial videos and webinars.

And … A LOT of cooking, so hopefully I won’t gain to much weight :)

Robe: What’s the most creative thing you’re able to do in isolation?

Marc: Creativity is something without limits, that’s the good thing about it – so there is not much change.

But I have started to create playlists for friends, as music is always a good way to treat cabin fever!

Robe: Are you looking after anyone else during the Covid-19 crisis?

Marc: As I said – my family – so in this case my wife and daughter. Plus regular calls with my parents who don’t live in Munich.

Robe: Has anyone inspired you since this started?

Marc: Oh yeah, a friend of mine started a petition about universal basic income and received a massive response – over 400,000 signed it in the first few days. And of course some big players in our industry, companies like MagicFx making hand-sanitizer, or ETC building facemasks.

But also on a smaller scale as well … a good colleague of mine is 3D printing parts for the local first responders – the ambulance service and firefighters.

Robe: Favourite book / movie / Netflix series / viral video

Marc: I have just finished watching LUCIFER – based around Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) – the Devil who abandons Hell for Los Angeles where he runs his own nightclub and becomes a consultant to the LAPD.

I really liked it and am eagerly awaiting the next season.

Robe: What’s the first thing you’d like to do when we are through this?

Marc: Have a drink with the people I could not meet for a very long time.

Robe: Own question / answer / message of solidarity or something you’d like to say?

Marc: I really hope for a change, which all proves how easy it is to assist others generally … like going shopping for older and less mobile people, etc.

Also I hope our way of working can change, offering more options to combine family and work in an essential work / life balance.

And most importantly … that all these jobs in health, social and community care, etc are way more important than investment bankers etc., and should get paid way better than what they are now!
